Artificial grass is becoming more and more popular as people realise the many benefits it can bring to their outdoor spaces. But did you know there are many different types of artificial grass on offer?
Find out more about the many types of artificial turf grass here and let us make your choice easier.
Different materials used
Whilst all synthetic turf is made from plastic, there is variation in the type of plastic used. Most commonly, artificial grass is made from either polypropylene, polyethylene, or nylon.
Polypropylene
Polypropylene artificial grass is one of the most common materials, due to its cheap price point and great durability, making it popular with families and in busy gardens.
It makes a beautiful grass, with a shiny and polished surface – however, this can make it look unnatural, and this is not helped by its susceptibility to UV degradation which can affect the colour vibrancy.
Polyethylene
Of all the different types of artificial grass, grass made from polyethylene is a great middle-ground. It is cheaper than Nylon but is generally more expensive than polypropylene due to its higher quality.
It is durable, like polypropylene, yet doesn’t compromise on softness. This softer material means it looks more natural, so it is a popular choice for corporate locations, schools, and homes.
Nylon
Originally used in sports, Nylon synthetic grass is a resilient, strong option that is ideal for heavy use such as in sports grounds.
It is a coarse texture, so is not as soft as other materials, however, the strength is what makes it stand out from the rest when used in high-footfall areas.
The downside to nylon is that it is more expensive than polypropylene and polyethylene, so will cost more initially. However, the durability of nylon artificial grass means it can have a longer lifespan when used in high-traffic areas, making it a more cost-effective option in the long term.
Types of artificial turf grass
At The Modern Lawn Company, we stock many different types of artificial grass in a variety of materials to suit your lifestyle and needs.
When choosing synthetic grass, different types will have different characteristics. For example, some grass options are fast-draining, UV-stabilised, or pet friendly.
Depending on your needs, these factors will affect your choice. Schools and families will want to choose a durable grass that is child-safe and fast draining, whilst pet owners will want to ensure their grass is suitable for their four-legged friends!
All of our artificial turf options are eco-friendly, child and pet-safe, and UV Stabilised.
Choosing a colour and style
Aside from price and practicality, you can’t forget about the aesthetic qualities of your chosen grass – after all, you will have to look at it every day once it is in your garden!
Brighter greens will tend to look more unnatural, so if you are looking for a realistic grass colour you should opt for a mixed colour that includes darker green tones that mimic the true colour palette of grass.
As well as the colour, different types of artificial grass have different lengths, providing an overall different look to your outdoor space.
As you can see, there is a variety of different types of artificial turf grass available to you, making your choice easier. Transform your garden today with our range of synthetic grass! Order a free sample at Modern Lawn, or get in touch with our team who will be happy to help.
